Global and Local

gellabee:

We worry about money all the time, clothes this, bags that, you need money for the cigs and you wouldn’t even give a rat’s ass bout the other side. It’s day here and they’re livin in the night. The shadow of a being comes quick as the sun slowly sets, poverty invading while these people look to nest. In the island still livin in rundown buildings and straw-roofed huts, I just wish it didn’t have to be this way as I close my eyes shut. You see the labor they provide, the working hard type of people just trying to make it in the life and see there? Doesn’t take much for them to smile. Opposing the opposites, you wonder why our impression has marked a negative and spoiled isn’t a strong enough adjective to describe us- this is purely subjective. Lookin’ through their eyes but I can’t cause I have it all, scarred minds want to close cause they’ve seen it all. From wasted nutrients to scraps of paper, we forget the essence of a day as we go and chase the paper. The green, the yellow, the stoplight and the red, we never slow down always busy for our bed. Cement is friendly and soil molds for their bodies while such thing is a shame. Mother Earth cries as she watches the children of her globe die in starvation, love-sick infatuation, more so those of deathly addictions of the worldwide friction of religions and beliefs, discrimination and hate and lack of acceptance and what you got goin’ on here is resistance to corrupted authority and many die young having no way to tell their story. But we forget, the troubles of our peers. All these, ‘Heys’, ‘I love you’s’, and ‘I wish you were heres’ all seem to be overlooked. We worry about the other side but forget about our homes. We wallow in self-pity and our emptiness in whole. We disregard the troubles and never hear the cries but neglection too long- that’s when the human soul dies. Depression, suicide and crime rates so high it’s like Mr. Sun is gone and hello to rainy skies. Abortion an escape, but little do you know God gave you a blessing, a baby in this world, a life for you to nurture and cherish. A life for you to love, to take care of and to relish. A miracle seed, baby brought to you so you can profess your creed. You never know, baby may have saved you. But you’ll never know now, because the deed is done and the act is through. The hardships of our parents face I’ll never know, I take everything for granted cause really, I’m this low. Budget cuts and high school dropouts, money’s tight but you have food tonight, so worry about tomorrow when the day is there. I know things contradict, like us plannin’ for our future yet we’re told to take it one day at a time? They say to live life to its fullest but yet pressure is always present. I wanna change the world but I’m missing a special ingredient. As I think and think often of the problems of the world, its beauty has become an ugly face. You see the trees and big blue sky? The green, green grass? And when you were a kid, “What is life about?” you’d always ask. Life has no definition. Meaning you place on your God-given life awaits your decision. You can live in God or you can live in man. And although cliche, you can learn to appreciate the sand in your toes, maybe even admire how the wind blows. Savor your sight, for one day your eyes may only see the night, black and daunting. But it should be okay just as long as you have God’s light, forgiving and everlasting. Enjoy your hands while they serve many favors, love your feet while you still have the privilege to walk, and love your mouth for you have the ability to talk. Use your ears for good instead of evil and listen to these cries. The devil wants to take you; don’t listen to his alibis. In the midst of exploring, true change is one within one’s self. A change within the community only contributes to the change one invests in. If you want to change the world, start with your reflection.
